Enhancing People’s Food Bank Services

As Social Welfare Department allocated some resources to People’s Food Bank for territory-wide (except Kwun Tong) short term food assistance since 1 August 2008, People’s Food Bank will spend all the funding on buying food in order to help maximum number of service users.

The service targets are non CSSA recipients whom are low income group, unemployed, families encounter sudden change, street sleepers and “ng mo” as well.  The application for CSSA recipients will be accepted when social workers assess their urgent need.  The maximum period of food assistance is 6 weeks.

Nurturing the children: Milk Powder Sponsorship Scheme

People's Food Bank provides food to the needy.  Recently, People's Food Bank receives many enquiries from different agencies about milk sponsorship towards CSSA recipients.  As rapid inflation in Hong Kong and the increase rate of CSSA is not enough to cover the daily expenses, People's Food Bank launches "Nurturing the children: Milk Powder Sponsorship Scheme" that  subsidy 1 tins of 900 gm of milk powder each month so that the economic burden has been released.
